Raised in Milwaukee, Sabrina Madison, aka Heymiss Progress,
moved to Madison with what she calls “big rose colored glasses.” In
this episode of Black Oxygen, the Founder of the Progress Center
for Black Women, candidly discusses the systemic challenges facing
Black folks in Madison. She states, “this is a city that has very
low standards for Black folks.” Progress also talks about the
optics of success in Madison, how to get involved in local
government, and how she works on maintaining her personal peace as
a Black leader in this community. Towards the end of our
conversation, she talks about her favorite Black owned businesses
for holiday shopping.
